I was a Teenage Feminist

I never understand why some people insist on judging the poor for every choice they make or don’t make.
This status is assuming a couple of things.
1. This woman owns the car. There is a very good chance that someone is letting her borrow it to go get groceries. I know that since my mom is disabled, she used to let my cousin take our car to go get us and her groceries.
2. This woman, because she has a nice car, does not “deserve” food stamps. What if she lives in that car? In order to qualify for SNAP in the first place you have to have total countable resources under 3,000 dollars (2,000 if no one in your family is elderly or disabled). Your car counts toward that unless you are living out of it or it’s your only method of transportation or if you very little equity on the vehicle. For future reference, SNAP rules are available here in case you need them to refute assholes like this.
3. Poor people don’t deserve junk food. What is with this beliefs?? I seriously don’t understand it. Are Cheetos seriously so sacred that only your middle-class ass is allowed to eat them?? Let me tell you something, I am a college student and I am poor (while at school) and I buy junk-food al the damn time. Why? Because I am stressed out and I want some chocolate! We seriously need to stop getting on people’s back about what they eat. Get off it.
People who use food stamps are judged enough while checking out at the grocery store. There is no need to be spreading your judgment all over facebook, as well.
